BETWEEN PRISCILLA AND THE CROWN

Gone are the days when beauty contests seldom promoted any particular agenda, so the prettiest of women hit the dais and hoped to be crowned the queen.
And what happened when one was eventually crowned the queen? Nothing! She just picked up the accolade and glory that being called ‘a beauty queen’ bestowed on her and waited till the next edition of the pageant to come for a new queen to be crowned. And so on, and so forth!
But a new era has dawned, where pageants are now branded well to address and cater for certain aspects of national development that need attention –such as tourism and culture. Nonetheless, other pageants still exist without any clear-out focus and agenda, and thus still go about searching for only the prettiest to be crowned a queen.
Indeed, every woman is a unique creature with special attributes to be proud of. Whereas some bestow beauty festooned in a mesmerizing physique(for which they always qualify for beauty pageants),others wield eloquence, intelligence, courage and sheer charisma, among others.
Miss Priscilla Asare, a contestant in this year’s Miss Tourism Ghana, considers herself as such. The 20 something years old communication science student undergraduate of the African University College of Communication (AUCC), believes she is the one to win the contest this time around.
Why? This is what she says Miss Tourism entails a lot and therefore needs hardworking, very articulate, respectful, brilliant and disciplined lady who has beauty inside out and the willpower to champion tourism, I think I am that person.
Really, the Miss Tourism Ghana Tourism is a platform for such people like Priscilla. This is because it is the only pageant in the country today with a clear-out focus to promote tourism in the country.
“Our tourism site appears to have been overlooked and this is not helping us at all. In fact, tourism is one industry that can earn more than it currently does. So why don’t we sell what nature has blessed us with, but continue to engage in issues that are not worth it” she questioned.
“I will advocate for a global tourism campaign which will help to showcase Ghana’s tourist site to attract people from other country like we see on C.N.N” she added. “My expectation is that the best contestant will be crowned as the next Miss Tourism Ghana so that she can champion our tourism potentials”.
Ten ladies, each representing a region in the country, are competing for the crown and the D-day is Saturday, September 17, this year, at the National Theatre in Accra.log on to www.misstourismghana.org to vote for your favorite contestant among Priscilla Asare,Patience A.Avorgbedor,Emefa Akosua Adeti,Evelyn E Hadzor,Michaella Araba Etwire,Ida Abaanya Seidu,Jennifer A.Annan,Golda Aba Dayi,Sandra Abena Dankwa and Evelyn Asenath Ababio.
